RenĂ© Magritte (1898–1967) is one of the most revered and popular artists of the 20th century. During summer 2011 Tate Liverpool presents RenĂ© Magritte: The Pleasure Principle, the first major exhibition of the Belgian surrealist in the UK in ten years. The Pleasure Principle aims to focus on the less explored aspects of Magritte’s life and artistic practice, and on themes including the artist’s use of pattern and artifice, ideas and revelation, and visual fracture and eroticism.
